Microcomputer Design Educational Environment City-1 on Verilog HDL and FPGA in 2005
for the junior students of the Department of Computer Engineering,
Faculty of Information Sciences, Hiroshima City University

A video God's will is introducing the last 5 years (2004-2008) of City-1, which is an educational course held successfully by Ryuichi TAKAHASHI in microcomputer design using field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for junior students of the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Information Sciences, Hiroshima City University.
I myself was healed many times by the BGM "God's will" which I composed in 2004.

A new example description named RISC-3FB4, which I wrote in 3725 lines for 11 modules in Verilog HDL, was given to all of the 48 junior students of our department of computer engineering. I replaced the ring buffer in the prior example description RISC-3RB4 with a FIFO buffer in this new description RISC-3FB4.
As a result, the number of the students who implemented out-of-order issue increased from 7 to 13. The number of the students who implemented multiplication instruction increased from 7 to 9. The number of the students who implemented subroutine call/return instruction increased from 3 to 4. 2 of the students implemented division. Another student implemented an instruction to calculate the remainder. 2 student implemented immediate value substitution. 1 of the 2 students implemented an instruction for the Euclidean algorithm, which was the very application program that should run on their machines. In this educational environment City-1, the specification is given only by showing some application programs that should run on their machines.
30 out of 48 students completed the entire phases in 15 weeks from the 6th of October 2005 till the 18th of February 2006. The deadline was extended since I (the chief instructor) have to present a study on Dynamically Reconfigurable Superscalar(DRSS) processor at Electronic Design and Solution Fair 2006 (EDSFair2006) which was held in the very last week for this course in January which was followed by the weeks for final examinations.
Master's course students Shin'ichi MIURA and Takayoshi SHIMAZU worked as teaching assistants this year. These 2 students and me were all of the staffs in this year.
